Friday, January 25 - Matthew 10

Friday, January 25
Matthew 10

In this chapter Jesus commissions the twelve to carry out His work.  It serves as a precursor to the life that they will have after He ascends into heaven.

10:1-42  Consider the specifics of Jesus’ instructions.  What assignments does He make?  What warnings does He give?  What comfort does He offer?

Comfort

10:11-16, 40-42   Hospitality toward the Word of God and those who proclaim it is highlighted here.  In what ways have you welcomed the Word in your home?   In what ways have your home not been as welcoming as you would like?  What could you do to change this?

10:17-20    Have you ever felt disfavor or prejudice against you because you were a Christian?  Do you have any concern that the world might become less tolerant of Christian teaching and principles?   Do you ever wonder whether you might compromise your principles if you faced persecution?   What strength does God offer in these verses?

10:32-42   In these verses Jesus describes a discipleship that places Him first above all things – even the closest of relationships.  Has any relationship you’ve been involved with ever led you in a direction against Christ and the Gospel?  How have your family and friends helped you as a Christian?
